Tingdu privacy policy
Effective date: 25 October 2026
This policy covers Tingdu (听读), the Android app (package
com.alexandritesoftware.tingdu) and the website version of the same app. “We”
means the developer of Tingdu. Questions:

Summary
- Your wordsets, settings, scores and Premium status are stored on your device only. We have no server, no accounts and no analytics of our own, so nothing of this reaches us.
- The Android app shows ads from Google AdMob. Google’s ad software collects device and usage data to serve and measure ads; where the law requires it, the app asks for your consent first.
- Premium is sold through Google Play. Google processes the payment; we never see your payment details.
- The website version shows no ads and sells nothing.
What the app stores on your device
- The wordsets you import or edit, with their pictures and recordings.
- Your settings, the results of your sessions and your records.
- Whether Premium is active, and until when (from a Google Play purchase or a promo code).
- A short diagnostic log kept in memory while the app runs, shown on the About screen; it is not saved or sent anywhere.
This data stays on the device. It is not sent to us or to anyone else. It is deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its storage (on the website: when you clear the site’s data in your browser).
Advertising (Android app)
The Android app shows one banner ad from Google AdMob, a Google advertising service. Premium removes it. To serve and measure ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK in the app may collect and share with Google:
- the advertising ID and other device identifiers;
- approximate location, derived from your IP address;
- information about your interactions with ads, and app diagnostics and performance data.
The data is sent encrypted. Google uses it under its own privacy policy: Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Where the law requires it (for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and in some US states), the app shows Google’s consent form before any ad is requested. You can change your choice at any time in Settings › Ad privacy options. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, in the Android settings (Settings › Privacy › Ads, or Google › Ads, depending on the device).
The ads are requested with the content rating “General audiences”.
Purchases (Android app)
Premium is sold through Google Play as a subscription (monthly or yearly) or as a one-time purchase. Google Play processes the payment and keeps your purchase history under the Google Payments privacy notice. The app asks Google Play only whether Premium was bought and stores whether it is active. No payment details reach the app or us.
Promo codes are checked on the device. Entering a code sends nothing anywhere.
Speech
Words are spoken by the text-to-speech engine of your device or browser. The engine belongs to the device or browser maker. Some browsers use online voices; in that case the browser sends the text being spoken to its maker, under the maker’s privacy policy. Tingdu itself sends no text anywhere.
Files you import and export
Wordset files you import are read on the device. Files you export are created on the device and go only where you send or save them.
The website
The website version runs entirely in your browser and stores its data in the browser’s own
storage (IndexedDB) on your device. It has no ads, no purchases, no cookies and no
analytics. It is hosted at https://tingduapp.com on Microsoft Azure Static Web
Apps: like any web server, Microsoft receives the technical data of each request, such as
your IP address, under the
Microsoft Privacy Statement.
Children
Tingdu is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. The app itself collects no personal data; the ad data described above is collected by Google.
Your rights
We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to give you, correct or delete. To delete the data on your device, uninstall the app or clear its storage. For the data Google collects for ads and purchases, use the controls in your Google account and the links above, or contact Google.
Changes
We will publish any change to this policy on this page and update the effective date above.
